Privacy Policy
This site collects very little. This page explains what is collected, by whom, why, and the choices you have.
Who we are
This policy covers the website at thewovengarden.com (“the site”, “we”, “us”). The site is run by Bertha as an independent publication. For any privacy question or request, write to contact@thewovengarden.com.
The short version
- You do not need an account to use the site, and we do not ask for your name.
- The calculators run in your browser. The measurements and prices you enter are not sent to us and are not stored.
- If you contact us, we receive your name, email address and message, and use them only to reply.
- The site shows advertising through Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies to serve and measure ads. You can turn off personalized advertising.
- We do not sell personal information, and we do not run email lists.
Information you give us
Contact messages. When you use the contact form or email us, we receive the name and email address you provide and whatever you write. The form delivers your message to our inbox by email. We use this information only to answer you and, if you report an error, to investigate it. We keep correspondence for as long as it is needed for that purpose, normally no more than two years, and then delete it.
Calculator inputs. Nothing you type into a calculator leaves your device. The arithmetic is done by code running in your browser. If you use “Copy link to this result”, your inputs are placed in a web address that you can save or share. If you open such a link, the inputs in it are sent to our server as part of the page address, like any other web address, and may appear in standard server logs.
Information collected automatically
Server logs. Like every website, ours is delivered by servers that process the technical details of each request: your IP address, the page requested, the date and time, and your browser type. The site is hosted on Cloudflare, which processes this information on our behalf to deliver pages, keep the site secure and block abuse. We see only aggregate figures, such as the number of visits to a page. We do not use these logs to identify individual visitors.
Analytics. We do not use Google Analytics or any analytics tool that sets cookies or builds profiles of visitors.
Advertising
The site is supported by advertising served through Google AdSense. This section contains information that Google requires publishers to give you.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
- You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. Alternatively, you can opt out of some third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info/choices or, in Europe, www.youronlinechoices.eu.
When ads are shown, Google and its advertising partners may collect or receive information from your browser. This can include your IP address, cookie identifiers, information about your device and browser, and information about your interaction with the ads and the pages they appear on. They use it to select and deliver ads, to limit how often you see an ad, to measure how ads perform, and to detect fraud. If you have allowed it, they also use it to personalize the ads you see.
Google explains this in detail in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services, and in the Google Privacy Policy.
If you opt out of personalized advertising, you will still see ads. They will be based on the content of the page you are reading and your general location, and not on your browsing history.
We do not give Google or advertisers your name, your email address, or anything you enter into a calculator or the contact form.
Consent in Europe and the United Kingdom
If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland, you are shown a consent message before any advertising cookies are set. It is provided by Google’s consent management platform, which is certified by Google and works with the IAB Europe Transparency and Consent Framework.
The message lets you consent to, or refuse, the use of cookies and personal data for personalized advertising, and lets you manage choices for individual vendors. If you refuse, you will be shown non-personalized or limited ads, or none.
You can change your mind at any time. Use the “Privacy and cookie settings” link that appears at the bottom of the page for visitors in those regions, or see the cookie policy for other ways to withdraw consent.
United States state privacy rights
Residents of some US states, including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia and others, have rights over the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information for targeted advertising. Allowing advertising partners to use cookies for personalized ads can count as a sale or sharing under those laws.
You can opt out by turning off personalized advertising in Google Ads Settings, or by using the opt-out choices offered in the privacy message where one is shown in your state. You can also email us at the address above and we will explain the options that apply to you.
We do not sell personal information for money.
Cookies
We do not set cookies of our own for tracking. Cookies are set by Google’s advertising and consent services when ads are shown. The cookie policy lists the categories of cookies, what they do, and how to control them.
Who receives your information
- Cloudflare, Inc., which hosts the site and forwards contact messages to our inbox.
- Google, which serves advertising, as described above.
- Our email provider, which stores the messages you send us.
We do not share personal information with anyone else, except where the law requires it.
Some of these providers process information in the United States and other countries. Where personal data is transferred out of the UK or the European Economic Area, the providers rely on recognized safeguards such as standard contractual clauses or the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- ask what personal information we hold about you, and receive a copy
- ask us to correct or delete it
- object to or restrict how it is used
- withdraw consent you have given, at any time
- complain to your data protection authority
In practice, the only personal information we hold directly is correspondence you have sent us. To make any request, email contact@thewovengarden.com. We will answer within 30 days.
For information held by Google in connection with advertising, use the controls in your Google account and Google Ads Settings.
Where European law applies, our legal grounds for processing are: your consent, for advertising cookies and personalized ads; our legitimate interests, for running and securing the site and answering messages; and legal obligation, where it applies.
Children
The site is intended for adults planning garden projects. It is not directed at children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Links to other sites
The site links to other websites for reference. We are not responsible for their content or their privacy practices.
Changes to this policy
If we change how information is handled, we will update this page and the date at the top. Significant changes are also noted in the changelog.
