Another lawn be gone! This delightful property in North Hollywood availed of the DWP Lawn rebate and was transformed from a weedy grassy, water guzzling expanse into a Native garden with two edible sections. A row of pomegranates were planted to create an informal hedge between this property and a neighbour as well as providing ample amounts of fruit.. The clients also wanted the space to be inviting to the neighbours and with that in mind I created two partial short fenced areas on which to grown espaliered citrus as well as climbing vegetables. The central path leads to an open area with outdoor seats when locals can come and sit a while. Berms to elevate plantings and give some interest and texture to the landscape were crafted. These berms will also aid in water retention when winter comes. The parkway was designed with some decomposed granite cutaway paths so cars can pull up and passengers cross the parkway easily. Just recently installed these photos show the garden at 6 months. It will fill in nicely over time.
